AccommodationsThe Beach House combines old beach house features with modern comforts. Situated high on sand dunes overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, it rises three stories to give breathtaking views. Outside are tin roofs and large porches. Inside, you'll find pine, ceramic tile and beaded board. Round timbers rise through the house, like the masts of old sailing ships. The ViewsBoth sunrise and sunset unfold over the sea. Only 200 yards to the east is the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge with sand dunes and live oak stretching as far as the eye can see. To the west of The Beach House is an enclave of vacation cottages. The view extends ten miles in each direction, from the nighttime glow of Gulf Shores to historic Fort Morgan at the end of the peninsula. Click on any picture to see a larger version of the picture.
The Kitchen The kitchen includes a guest refrigerator (always stocked with juices, soft drinks, beer, and wine), an ice maker and a coffee machine, all available around-the-clock. Nearby a snack basket offers assorted cookies, candy, chips and crackers. A cozy booth invites you to wake up with the coffee while you watch the sun rise over the water. The 1st Floor Porch The huge first floor porch wraps around the house from the southeast to the west, providing several nooks. Scattered about are wicker furniture, hammock, and hanging chairs. A smattering of teak tables provide places to slip away for breakfast or midday snack.
The Hot Tub Deck Outdoor stairs take you to the hot tub, where you can soak away tensions under sunny sky or moon and stars. Below the hot tub deck is yet another deck. It's perfect for daytime reading and star gazing at night. The 2nd Floor Porch The second floor screened porch provides a prime spot for watching sunsets color the sky. Wicker furniure, a queen-size hammock, and hanging chairs provide places to settle in with a glass of wine or a cold beer. A small door in the screen opens to a cat-walk: it's a shortcut to the hot tub deck.
The Stairway Library Reading is a favorite beach pastime. Bring a book if you have a favorite, but if not, don't worry. Bookcases on all three floors hold hundreds of books. If you start one and cannot finish, please let us know and we'll lend it to you.
